Strategies for developing and carrying out functional assessment and behavior intervention planning

The federal government mandates the use of functional behavior assessment and positive behavior support although it failed to define the key features of FBA or provide guidance regarding the process by which FBA is conducted in schools in the legislation.  The article provides a framework for conducting FBA in classroom settings in public schools.  First the key concepts and features of FBA are discussed, followed by how educators can efficiently conduct FBA and use the results to design an intervention plan, and finally the authors make recommendations to teachers.
